For the first throwing exercise i decided to throw cylinders about 12cm and 8cm wide. With each I varied different types of rims. The starting line of the profile starts with the rim of the pot where this interest is then carried on to the base. Bernard leach believed that just like a line drawing, care should be taken with the start and end of the profile, and the middle will take care of itself. Have a look below and let me know your thoughts. Tomorrow i will look at a variation on bases.
Looks good to me. I often find that getting the rim right is key, and can take as long as the rest of the throw.
Thanks Pete, also its a good reference to keep in mind while throwing future pots.
Wow! Thank you very much for this exercise. It is very refreshing to be reminded to just “do” exercises to “see” what the results are. I will try this in the near future. Oh, and I like your rims.
Thanks Bdd3. Exercises are important and building up a library of references for fututre pots, I will post options for the bases soon keep an eye out.
Fascinating. Thank you
